Getting Thit Done

Posted in Home and Garden with tags , , on October 26, 2008 by madmaxine

Yes, you heard me. Thit.

I worked in the garden most of the day. Gotta get plants moved before the raiins set in for the winter. Need to put down compost. Most importantly, I need to get things put away so that I’m not disgusted by the whole mess when I go out in the spring.

I decided not to move the dogwood from the front yard. I’m putting in a raised bed garden there. I was going to use it as a victory garden, but I decided to move the plants from the back yard out there. Then, I’ll use the back yard as a victory garden. So moving plants is the main priority. That, plus cleaning up all the excess piles of strangeness that have appeared in the back since I moved in 4 years ago. Already two trips to the dump in the last two months.

At any rate, I’m tired and sore. I made saurkraut, spare ribs, and mashed potatoes for dinner. It was awesome. I would kill for a piece of apple pie, but I haven’t got my thit quite together enough to have made that. Maybe tomorrrow, when I’m not working, sewing, voting, or sleeping. Sigh.

Okay, I’m a Socialist

Posted in Politics with tags , , , , on October 21, 2008 by madmaxine

To all you crazy people who think that the infrastructure we see around us was built for free and that it is something we’re just entitled to…

To the underpaid “everyman’ who believes that Obama is going to take their money and spread it around, and that McCain is going to make it all better because he’s like your grampy…

To the constitution-thumpers who think the Republican party, champion of the “Patriot Act,” is the party of personal freedom…

To the bible-wavers who think that segregation is the key to maintaining their own rights at the cost of others…

To all the women out there who think Palin is the best thing for women since sliced bread…

And to the rest of you rigteous, bigoted A-holes who want to vote for John McCain because he’s not “a terrorist Ayrab”….

Please, pull your empty heads out of your asses. Do your own research. Stop being blinded by your emotions. The extreme right wing is out to control your minds, destroy your retirement funds, rape our planet, and sanctimoniously remove your personal rights. The right wingers are driving the economic bus, and it’s heading right off a cliff. While the rest of us go down in flames, therich bastards who can afford to work around tax laws walk away from the disaster laughing because your Republican candidate doesn’t want to regulate anybody for any reason. Get a clue.

Oh, and here’s another neat idea: There is no God. No one is going to come down and magically rapture your ass away from this mess. Even if there was a god, do you really believe that your god is going to take a bigoted, judgemental, fear-mongering, greedy, intentionally ignorant, hateful person up to heaven? I thought Christians were supposed to be humble, open-minded, and kind. I’m not impressed by what I’m seeing in America right now, especially from regligious zealots. So, mister and missus god-fearing American, it’s in your best interest to vote for someone (oh… say, Obama) who will work hard make your life better while you’re needlessly waiting to be raptured.

I’m begging you to start thinking for yourself. Please. Vote for someone (hint, not McCain) who won’t die after his first month in office and who actually gives a shit about people instead of money. If your stupid candidate (or his ridicuous vice president) becomes president, no matter how bad things get here, those of us unfortunate enough to live through all the resultant strife are all going to be around to watch it. And those of us who actually give a shit about real social issues are going to be really, really pissed off. Again. You’d better have some answers.

If anyone can tell me where this marvelous poster came from, I'd be thankful.

Please, tell me where this marvelous poster came from!

Pretty Things in My Garden

Dragon fly in my back yard, August 2008

Dragon fly in my back yard, August 2008

I just wanted to post a few photos of some of the loveiness that is in my yard. Because the yard and gardens are such a mess this year, it’s hard to see these things unless you stand still and stare for a few minutes. So I decided to document them to remind me of what the garden could look like if I got on the ball and finished moving all my plants and stuff around.

A Pat Austin rose that I rescued from a neighbor. Kind of a fussy little bush, but worth the effort.

Note that I’m not posting any photos of the mess. That’s a work in progress that I don’t need to share with anyone but my sweetheart who is helping me with it all. With regards to the mess, the work I did for Burning Man this year prompted me to do two things: 1) build a temporary carport-style shed until I can build a real one; and 2) leave a patch of grass in the back yard. The significance of these two items is that I realized I need some space to work. Some work space must be in a cleanish, dryish location, and the other work space needs to be big enough to actually assemble large objects.

Anyway, on to the pretty things…

Microscopy Stuff – Another Test

Posted in Microscopy and Little Things with tags , , on October 19, 2008 by madmaxine

My dad gave me a digital microscope several years ago for Christmas. Once I get my house more organized, I plan to get that thing out more often. I also will make some mounting brackets for my cameras so that they fit over the optics on the microscope. At least one of my high quality digital cameras has the same properties as the human eye, so I should be able to take good photos of tiny stuff at some point. Just another in a long string of projects.

Well, here’s my first real blog on a real blog site EVAR. I’m currently trying to figure out layout and widgets. Since I’m more of a mechanic than a computer geek, you’ll all just have to humor me for a bit whilst I get my bearings. In the mean time, I’m off to fiind a band-aid. I seem to have scraped my shin in the un-alterable pitch blackness that is my layout.
